Gautam Ramchandani - HBS Club of Connecticut
Club President
What is your role in the Club and how long have you been involved in the Club?
I am currently the President of the HBS Club of CT and Co-Founder / Director of the Community Partners arm of the Club. I started volunteering with the Club in 2001.
What is your present job/career?
Entrepreneur, helping young technology, media, telecommunications (TMT) companies grow. Assisting Boards of Directors and senior leadership in the social enterprise and nonprofit sectors with strategy and execution in these turbulent times.
What is your most memorable Club experience so far?
The Club was fairly dormant and undercapitalized when I first got involved. In the past 5 years my officer team and I have helped generate a great deal of energy and excitement resulting in many fun events and activities and a substantial improvement in our financial position. We have organized world class events featuring business, nonprofit and academic thought leaders like Julian Robertson, David Saltzman and Nic Retsinas. So while there were many fun moments, one of my most memorable experiences was when Professor Retsinas led a panel discussion to give us a glimpse into the future of philanthropy.
Why do you volunteer your time as a Club officer?
This role provides unparalled opportunities to interact with incredibly bright, fun to be with, like minded alumni. Also it goes without saying that the impact that HBS Alumni have on our communities in Connecticut can be significantly enhanced by the activities we help organize.
How have the alumni in Connecticut benefited from the Club?
The Club provides many opportunities for alumni to meet business and nonprofit leaders, keep abreast of latest thinking at HBS, volunteer to help nonprofits and to network with other professionals.
What do you miss most about HBS?
The intellectual stimulation of being in a class of 90 accomplished people, led by an amazing professor to advance the ways of looking at and solving business problems. I was back at HBS for the faculty led Social Enterprise event in March 2008. It was undoubtedly the most enjoyable learning experience for me in over 30 years.
