Hemali Dassani - HBS Club of New York

Vice President of Operations

What is your role in the Club and how long have you been involved in the Club?
I am the VP of Operations and head of the HBSCNY Alumni New Venture Competition.  Previously I was VP of Programming.  I have been involved with the Club for approximately 10 years.

What is your present job/career?
I am currently a Vice President at Diamond Edge Capital Partners (DECP) where I market alternative asset managers to global institutional investors and consultants.  My clients are leading private equity, hedge fund / fund-of-funds, infrastructure, and real estate firms looking to aggressively increase their asset base and participate in global investor road shows.

What is your most memorable Club experience so far?
My most memorable Club experience is actually the planning and preparation for the first HBS Alumni New Venture Competition.  The outcome of this unique event where 9 HBS Clubs across the globe work in conjunction with HBS Alumni Relations, The Rock Center on Entrepreneurship, global venture capitalists, angel investors and local entrepreneurs to craft the first New Venture Competition has been incredibly exciting and uplifting.  The experience reinforces the notion that we are part of an amazing global business community of committed alumni.

Why do you volunteer your time as a Club officer?
We live in a new world that is continually changing at twitter speed and the emerging leaders who make a difference will be engaged in this new world.  I volunteer my time with the Club to help our diverse, global members, especially the younger graduates, find relevance with the Club and to get them more engaged in their digital, flat world.

How have the alumni in New York benefited from the Club?
I like to think we “Engage Leaders Who Make a Difference” in a variety of ways.  We attempt to facilitate life-long learning that aids our members in understanding changing sectors and evolving business models so they can be leaders who shape the new look of international business.  We provide members access to intense networking opportunities globally that inspire them with the social capital needed to help them be more successful. We also aspire to help rising leaders accumulate a shared knowledge base of innovative, strategic thinking and best practices that can then be utilized to create community opportunity by the spreading and sharing of this new knowledge.

What do you miss most about HBS?
I miss the social interaction and intellectual stimulation from a group of incredibly high-energy business professionals from all over the world and across industries. The HBSCNY allows me to fill that void.
