Leah Taylor - HBS Club of Chicago
Club President
What is your role in the Club and how long have you been involved in the Club?
I am the President of the HBS Club of Chicago and I have been involved as a board member with the Club off and on since the 1990's. I had a 5 or 6 year hiatus in the middle there.
What is your present job/career?
I am an Investment Advisor for JP Morgan Private Wealth Management. I work with high net worth individuals to assist them in growing and preserving their wealth. I have primary responsibility for asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk management. I work as part of a team that provides investment, banking, estate planning, and trust services to clients.
What is your most memorable Club experience so far?
My most memorable experience is the Global conference that we hosted in Chicago awhile back. The global networking night was also a lot of fun!
Why do you volunteer your time as a Club officer?
I volunteer because I enjoy the group of people that I have gotten to know on the board. They are diverse in age and background. They are hard working and fun. It is also rewarding to support the Club's charitable effort. We send not for profit executive directors back to HBS for training that can help them to expand and better manage their organizations.
How have the alumni in Chicago benefited from the Club?
I think alumni benefit from the opportunity to get together with class mates and to meet new alumni. I also think that alumni really appreciate the opportunity to hear from Professors who are sharing cutting edge thinking on the challenges facing business today. (I would love to see more HBS Profs come to Chicago.)
What do you miss most about HBS?
I miss the friends that I made at HBS. (I developed the closest friendships with the members of my study groups, and the other African American students). A lot of folks stayed on the east coast and I came back to Chicago so I don’t have as much contact with them as I'd like. I also miss Cambridge which is a fun place to hang out.
