Stephen Cloonan - HBS Club of Ireland
Club President
What is your role in the Club and how long have you been involved in the Club?
I am currently President and I have been involved for about 10 years.
What is your present job/career?
Having sold my business I now enjoy working as an advisor, investor, chairman or board member. My involvements have been in industries as diverse as Engineering Services, Venture Capital, Real Estate Development, Advertising, Coffee and Food Service Distribution. There has been no time to get bored!
What is your most memorable Club experience so far?
There have been many. In particular I have enjoyed many of the insights provided by the speakers at our Distinguished Speaker Lunches and our Case-Study Events.
Why do you volunteer your time as a Club officer?
The HBS experience was very important to me as it is to all Alumni. I enjoy the interaction with fellow alumni. I think most of our members are happy to help out and do a turn as a club officer. My schedule this year allowed me to take on my new role.
How have the alumni in Ireland benefited from the Club?
We are a small country but we have very committed members. We are fortunate to be able to get access to and insights from many distinguished individuals. Our case-study events build on the learning experiences we had in HBS and keep us in touch with the latest management thinking.
What do you miss most about HBS?
I miss having the time to invest in new relationships and the many new international friends I made there. I miss the daily focus on self-improvement and learning and the challenges we faced in getting to grips with the case-studies. I always returned to Ireland hugely energised.
